Dictionary of the Khazars: A Lexicon Novel is the first novel by Serbian writer Milorad Pavich (Milorad Pavi?) Due to its format as a dictionary, the novel may be read in any number of ways, rather than just front to back. That was mentioned in the introduction. I had never heard of it, but it sounds fascinating. In a way, I think Bill and I were both heavily inspired by the Dictionary of the Khazars. It's a series of introductions from books that have yet to be written, complete with sample pages! [This is one of a series of entries on Milorad Pavic's writings, click for the first post in the series.] These are lists of quotations from the book that are quite beautiful, I think. Dictionary of the Khazars takes the form of three cross-referenced encyclopedias of the Khazars, a semi nomadic Turkish people. I think “the Dictionary of the Khazars: a lexicon novel” by Milorad Pavic has a color code too, or at least the spanish edition does. Thank you for calling my attention the Dictionary of the Khazars, Mr Whelk. 169 Title: Dictionary of the Khazars: A Lexicon Novel Author: Milorad Pavić: Publisher: Alfred A. The Dictionary of the Khazars is really a sort of hypertext novel. And for something that's more speculative fiction, Dictionary of the Khazars. Pavic's "Dictionary of the Khazars" #3.
